Pavilion in Bruges / Toyo Ito

    The small pavilion 2002 in this small Belgian city, whose historic center is a UNESCO world heritage site, was meant to be a link between the past and the future. Set in a pool of water and a bridge that allowed visitors through, hexagonal metal texture seemed diluted when reflected in the water, emphasizing the ephemeral and light Ito seeks to convey in many of his works.

    El pequeño pabellón de 2002 en esta pequeña ciudad belga, cuyo centro histórico es patrimonio mundial por UNESCO, buscaba ser un nexo entre el pasado y el futuro. Emplazado sobre un estanque de agua y como puente que permitía a los visitantes atravesarlo, la textura hexagonal metálica parecía diluirse al reflejarse en el agua, subrayando la el carácter efímero y ligero que Ito busca transmitir en muchas de sus obras.

IMPOSSIBLE ARCHITECTURE, FILIP DUJARDIN

Filip Dujardin is the photographer who has produced this series of fictional buildings. Dujardin’s photomontages are a collection of impossible structures created using a digital collaging technique from photographs of real buildings in and around Ghent, Belgium. Most of his architectural creations are structurally implausible, however, seem perfectly ordinary at first glance, revealing their absurdity only when the viewer notice missing or incongruous details. 

Filip Dujardin es el fotógrafo que ha creado esta serie de imágenes de edificios ficticios. Cada fotomontaje muestra una estructura imposible construida a partir técnicas de collage digitales, tomando imágenes de edificios reales de Gante y los alrededores, en Bélgica. La mayor parte de las combinaciones son estructuralmente muy dudosas, sin embargo a primera vista parecen totalmente reales, aunque conforme el espectador se acerca empieza a apreciar elementos que faltan o que simplemente no son congruentes.

GRINDBAKKEN, ROTOR

Grindbakken used to be a bunker of gravel and sand in Ghent’s dockland. While the masterplan for the whole area is being designed, it is being used as an open-air exhibition space. The first artistic event was entrusted to the Belgian collective Rotor. Their approach was above all to pay the respects to the existing structure, working on the traces and marks which could be seen on the surfaces, particularly during the phase in which the walls were whitewashed. 

Grindbakken es el nombre de una estructura que se utilizó como almacén de grava y arena en el puerto de Gante. Mientras se desarrolla el plan de regeneración del área, se está utilizando como lugar para exposiciones temporales al aire libre. La primera actuación ha corrido a cargo del colectivo belga Rotor. Con su actuación pretendían dejar intacta la estructura existente, enfatizando la geometría del volumen, por lo que decidieron pintar todo de blanco.

TEMPORARY BELL TOWER HOTEL, TATZU ROUS

Tatzu Rous has developed this temporary structure surrounding the clock face of the train station of Ghent. The room functions as both a private hotel suite in the evenings and stopping point for visitors of Track Festival.

Esta instalación de Tatzu Rous consiste en una estructura temporal que rodea la torre del reloj de la estación de trenes de Gante. La habitación funciona como hotel privado por las noches y como lugar de visita del festival Track durante el día.

Esta instalación es una estructura orgánica situada en las dunas de la costa de Wenduine, Bélgica para la Trienal de Arte Contemporáneo Beaufort 04. Está construida de ramas de sauce siguiendo las técnicas locales que combinan la artesanía con la naturaleza. El espacio se utiliza como zona de picnic y relajación.
