CYCLO-PHONE, MARCELO ERTORTEGUY AND SARA VALENTE
This installation is a bike-powered music machine. By pedalling a stationary bicycle connected to the instrument, users create different rhythms and compositions by cycling at different speeds. The instrument consists of a rubber flap attached to a bicycle rim that slaps on 8 PVC pipes which are held together in a radial configuration by a plastic stock water tank. Each pipe is cut at a different length to produce different tones. The installation was fabricated for Summer Streets 2012 presented by the New York City Department of Transportation in Manhattan.
Esta instalación es un sistema para reproducir música a partir de la energía generada por una bicicleta. Al pedalear, el usuario crea distintos ritmos y composiciones en función de la velocidad con la que lo haga. Esta construido a partir de una tira de goma que se une a una rueda que golpea 8 tuberías de PVC dispuestas en configuración radial y sujetas con un cubo grande de agua. Cada tubería tiene una longitud distinta, generando distintos tonos. La instalación ha sido construida para el festival Summer Streets 2012, promovido por el New York City Department of Transportation de Manhattan.
